Doctoral Education

The ambition of doctoral education at Aalto University is to train high-level and multi-disciplinary experts for national and international markets. Doctoral education is an important part of the university's research and teaching work.

Teaching, as well as cooperation with industry and society form a central part of the doctoral training. Funding mechanisms of doctoral education are developed in order to allow the majority of doctoral candidates to carry out systematic and full-time studies. Great emphasis is placed on the supervision of the doctoral candidates. Doctoral education is being developed in a consistent way aiming at the completion of the doctoral degree within a period of four years.

National cooperation and networking

Doctoral education networks offer universities a framework for educational collaboration. The networks organize joint seminars, courses, summer schools and events as well as promote networking and increase peer support among students.
